Why "Add > Successor issue" is grayed out and can not be selected?

Question

I tried to create a successor issue, but "Add > Successor issue" is grayed out and it can not be selected. Why?

Answer

If one of the following items apply to your case, it is a possible cause for this problem:

  • You are trying to add it from a project or a version, not an issue
  • The issue does not have Start date / Finish date
  • The issue the lower node of a version and the fix version of the issue is empty
  • Gantt configuration > View > Dependency link is disabled

Besides, the user must have the following permissions in Jira:

  • Issue creation permission
  • Issue link creation permission
  • In the case of the issue template mode, the project management permission needed adding on the above two
